Movin’ On Up…
Whenever possible, our preference at Odyssey is to promote from within. We recently had the distinct pleasure of doing just that for Dani Vance, Program Control Manager and focus of this edition’s Movin’ On Up profile.

What made you decide that a leadership role at Odyssey was right for you?
I have always enjoyed helping people be successful either by guiding them through a process or helping them create new solutions or tools to work smarter. During my time with Odyssey, I’ve had the opportunity to work with and support a variety of individuals, processes, customers, and missions while growing my skills, knowledge, and experience. When Odyssey’s growth opened this opportunity, I was encouraged and inspired to step forward.
What leadership roles did you have prior to joining Odyssey?
I’ve been fortunate to be elected to and hold a few leadership roles with various volunteer organizations that I’ve been a part of through the years. I appreciate the level of trust placed in me with each leadership role that I’ve had the privilege of holding. I like to think that those experiences, combined with my time and growth at Odyssey, have helped me prepare for my new role and responsibilities.
Who was your most inspiring manager, and what attributes did they display that made you want to be like them?
I’ve been very blessed to learn and receive mentorship from several fantastic leaders here at Odyssey. Although each has their own approach, they demonstrated similar attributes that resonated with me and that I hope to also represent, such as integrity, clear communication, accountability, positive support & encouragement, as well as empowerment of team members.
What is your definition of an inspiring leader?
I have found myself most inspired by leaders who are able to provide a clear vision of the team goals while being able to connect, understand, and empower each member to take initiative and continue to grow individually. I also find it inspiring when leaders recognize and celebrate employee accomplishments. I feel this builds rapport and strength of purpose among a team.
What advice would you give an employee aspiring to be a manager?
I would encourage an aspiring manager to explore the opportunities to collaborate with diverse teams, lend their skills and knowledge towards improvement initiatives, and to advocate for themselves and others with the leaders in their chain of command. I have found that Odyssey provides many opportunities and a supportive culture for employees to learn, grow, and continuously challenge themselves.
