Odyssey Systems expands services to Walter Reed Army Institute of Research

Firm receives new contract awards to support brain trauma research

Wakefield, Mass. – Dec. 9, 2024 — Odyssey Systems Consulting Group, Ltd, a leading provider of integrated defense capabilities and technologies, announced today it received new contract awards to expand its services within Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). Odyssey won a recompete contract to provide a broad range of biomedical research within WRAIR’s Brain Trauma and Neuroprotection (BTN) and a subcontract position to support the Blast Induced Neurotrauma (BINT) under the Center for Military Psychiatry and Neuroscience (CMPN).

“These contract awards are a result of our team’s dedication to enduring research and commitment to addressing the gaps in traumatic brain injury (TBI) care, where we have been supporting the military since 2017,” said Stefania Dobre, Executive Director of Odyssey’s Life Sciences Group.

Odyssey won the five-year $11.6 million contract to provide a broad range of biomedical research including preclinical research aimed at furthering the knowledge base of the pathophysiology of mild to severe TBI. Research objectives will specifically focus on ballistic-type TBI, controlled cortical impact (CCI), fluid percussion TBI and closed head impact concussion.

“This is an important and pressing time to produce research that contributes a better understanding of the relationship between traumatic injury and neurodegenerative phenomena which we hope will eventually lead to more effective treatments and interventions for our warfighters,” said Dr. Bob McLinden, Senior Program Manager at Odyssey Systems. “Our team is providing an incredibly broad range of deep expertise, from laboratory management to protocol review and neurotherapeutics.”

Odyssey also received a subcontract to provide research expertise and support to WRAIR’s Blast Induced Neurotrauma (BINT) researchers to define the biomechanical and biological underpinnings of kinetically and non-kinetically induced impairments and injuries to warfighters.
