Capture Operations Manager
How Long Have You Been with Odyssey?
Since March 2019
What customer do you support?
Since I work at headquarters, I don’t have a specific government customer that I report to. That being said, I’m lucky enough to directly support the amazing people that grow Odyssey’s diverging portfolios and mission areas. Whether it’s helping with the proposal review on the recent SDA win, coordinating research efforts for our Medical organization’s ever-growing list of clientele, or helping to develop our strategic growth plans, I get to see all of the cool and interesting directions that the company is going in.
What do you do each day?
I work with our Business Development and Capture team to help identify new opportunities and win new business. My job includes reducing pipeline bottlenecks and streamlining our capture processes, developing and monitoring sales KPIs to measure our success, forecasting our business development over the next few years, and managing our internal business development tools. I work closely with our Capture Managers to ensure that they have all the tools they need to capture new work for Odyssey. I also do some market research and analysis and generally anything that will help put our BD organization in a position for success. I’m a Boston Celtics fan so I can’t help myself with a metaphor—I like to think of myself as the Marcus Smart of our Capture team, someone that will do all the little things to help make the scoring easier for everyone else.
What do you enjoy about working at Odyssey?
The two things I enjoy most are the people that I work with and the mission areas we support. Our BD team is a very close-knit group and I’ve been fortunate to have amazing coworkers in my time here. I believe that it’s because of our passionate and dedicated people that we’ve been so successful. As for the mission areas, we have a very diverse set of capabilities that we perform for customers, but the overarching purpose is consistent: to do all we can to support the warfighter. We have extremely diverse portfolios in our C5ISR division, Medical, Space, Aviation, or Systems Solutions Groups, but always the drive to support the warfighter is there. A clear mission and great people make this a great place to work.
What is your current hometown?
North Andover, Massachusetts
Where did you grow up?
Before Odyssey, please tell us about a previous job you have held that stands out as unusual or presented you with a unique and / or interesting opportunity:
The one that always makes people interested or excited is discussing my experience working for Tesla. It was very exciting—I was part of the team that opened the flagship store on Boylston Street in Boston (to answer the first question I always get: no, I never met Elon). There were many things that I found unusual or interesting, but I was among the first within my professional or personal circle to have a lot of real world experience “driving” autonomous vehicles.
What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Driven, curious, and passionate.
Do you have a favorite quote?
“The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.”—Vince Lombardi
Tell us about your family, including pets:
I have an amazing wife, Amy, and we’re extremely excited to be welcoming a baby boy in October. I have two wonderful parents (one of whom works at Odyssey), a younger brother and a younger sister, and too many aunts, uncles, and cousins to list around the area.
Every baseball coach I ever had tried to call me Jimmy. Don’t call me Jimmy.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to play guitar and have for a little over 15 years now. I also love watching any and all New England sports. Doesn’t matter which team, chances are they’re probably winning 🙂
Where would you want to go on your dream vacation?
Many of my ancestors on both sides of my family are Irish—I’d love to see Ireland someday. However, every year when I get snowed in during the midst of a New England winter, my dream vacation is anywhere warm with a beach.
Coming in October: The Odyssey Core Values Award!
Odyssey is excited to introduce our very first corporate Core Values Award. We’ve developed this opportunity as a way to celebrate the people who live our values every day by exemplifying Odyssey’s three core values: Respect, Commitment, and Ambition. Keep a look out for more info to come!
