Bluemont Equine Rescue and Sanctuary

Bluemont Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization located in beautiful Colts Neck, New Jersey, and is home to 36 horses, donkeys and ponies who have been saved from slaughter, neglect, and abuse. Established in 2019 with the rescue of their first horse, Roxy, Bluemont’s mission is to offer a lifelong refuge to each and every rescue that walks through the barn door.

Since Bluemont is a non-profit organization, volunteer hours and donations are vital to the mission’s success. Jennifer Wistermayer, a Pricing Analyst in Odyssey’s finance and accounting department, is one of the 50 volunteers who helps care for the residents at Bluemont. Jenn’s responsibilities range from mucking stalls and feeding and grooming horses, to helping out at fundraisers and other events at the farm that bring awareness to the world of equine rescue.

Regardless of an animal’s age or medical conditions, the goal is to provide each one with a soft landing; which includes acres to roam, plenty of hay to eat, any medications that they need, and a herd and family to call their own. At Bluemont, every animal gets to live as naturally as possible and will never be adopted out, ridden, or used in any way. Never again will they be subjected to the hard life they once knew.

In addition to caring for the animals at the sanctuary, Bluemont also assists other sanctuaries as well as law enforcement with larger neglect cases. In 2022 alone, they assisted with three massive neglect cases (both locally and nationally) to help find safe, permanent homes for over 60 horses.
